I’m learning to appreciate what actual food tastes like. You should check out the book if you can or start by looking at recipes on thefameofhealthandfitness (on tumblr), Blogilates.com, Sarahfit.com or ToneItUp.com. These are the ladies that got me interested in Eating Clean. Try some of the recipes they posted &amp; see if you like them. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;What I also like about the ECD book is that it isn’t an extreme. You choose just how clean you want to eat. Just making a small change in your diet can make a difference. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;One of the reasons why I’m posting my meals for the week is that I didn’t really understand the concept of eating clean when I first heard about it. I’m hoping that by “showing” what I’m eating it helps others in understanding it. I’m still a newbie to eating clean and am learning one meal at a time. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 1: whole grain muffin with almond butter &amp; banana&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Meal 2: watermelon &amp; 1/2 banana&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Meal 3: shredded lettuce, grilled chicken, avocado, tomatoes, beans &amp; guacamole. I only ate about half. You can make good choices at a Mexican restaurant.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Meal 4: Brown rice rice cake with freshly ground honey roasted peanut butter&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Meal 5: Baked Grains Pilaf, Mango Salsa, Cilantro Shrimp &amp; roasted asparagus.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;li&gt;easy to make&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;low in calories/points&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;very filling&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;did I mention it’s delicious?  &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;Baked Grains Pilaf from Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Diet Recharged. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Ingredients:&lt;br/&gt;1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil&lt;br/&gt;1 Onion, peeled and finely chopped&lt;br/&gt;1 Small Carrot, peeled and finely chopped&lt;br/&gt;3 Stalks of Celery, finely chopped&lt;br/&gt;1/2 Cup of finely chopped bell pepper &lt;br/&gt;1/2 Cup of corn kernels&lt;br/&gt;3/4 Cup millet, rinsed well (I don’t know what millet is &amp; couldn’t find it at the store so I used orzo)&lt;br/&gt;3/4 Cup Quinoa, rinsed well&lt;br/&gt;3 Cups of low sodium chicken/vegetable broth &lt;br/&gt;1 Tsp sea salt&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I actually used 1/2 cup of orzo, 1/2 cup of quinoa &amp; 2 cups of chicken broth because I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the dish &amp; didn’t want to make too much of it.  BIG MISTAKE.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Cooking instructions&lt;strong&gt;:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Preheat oven to 350. Coat casserole dish with olive oil&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Place remaining oil in a medium skillet and heat gently. Add onion, carrot, celery, pepper and corn. Cook until onion is see through.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Place washed grains in casserole dish. Add cooked veggies and mix to combine. Add Chicken/Veggie broth and salt. Cover dish with lid or tin foil. Cook for 30 min or until all the water is absorbed. (I had to cook it for about 45 minutes &amp; perhaps that had to do with the type of casserole dish I used)&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Remove and serve hot with any meal.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;I served it with Lemon Chicken.  &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The Baked Grains Pilaf is AMAZING!  I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but it’s so easy to make and very tasty.  I decided that I would eat dinner first &amp; then my afternoon snack as I find that I want something sweet at the end of the day. &lt;/p&gt;

So far the cravings are still there but I am eating sufficient food so I’m really  it hungry just think that I am.  I counted points and all meals were the same as yesterday - 31 points. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 1: Ultimate Smoothie which consists of milk, cottage cheese, kiwi, strawberries, ice &amp; vanilla protein powder.  First time adding cottage cheese in a blended drink. It actually made the smoothie fluffier if that makes sense &amp; doubled the volume. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 2: pear &amp; raw almonds&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 3: grilled turkey patty on whole grain muffin with mustard &amp; spinach. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 4: cottage cheese &amp; mango&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 5 &amp; 6: herb marinated chicken, brown rice, steamed broccoli &amp; egg white. I could have steamed or roasted another vegetable but I’m trying to finish the broccoli before it goes bad. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I haven’t worked out this week. I think I tweaked my right knee on Sunday. I thought that taking a couple of rest days would help. &lt;p&gt;Meal 1: oatmeal, strawberries, chia seeds &amp; non-fat milk&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 2: plain Greek yogurt 0% with fruit&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 3: whole grain spaghetti, grilled chicken &amp; tomatoes&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 4: baby carrots &amp; hummus&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Meal 5 &amp; 6: grilled turkey patty, brown rice, steamed broccoli &amp; an egg white&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;As I’m still counting WW points, all of these food items equal 31 Points and my daily allowance is 46. I originally wanted to sign up for the 10K but it was sold out.  I was bummed and then I was amazed at myself that I was bummed that I couldn&amp;#8217;t sign up for a 10K.  What am I turning into?  Whatever it is, I think I like it.  &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;When I was filling out the form, it asked me to fill in a time for it and I put 45 minutes.  Now my fastest 5K time (not counting the treadmill) has been 53:07 which was the &lt;a href="http://adirtymartinikindofgirl.blogspot.com/2011/11/davis-5k-turkey-trot.html"&gt;Davis 5K&lt;/a&gt; in November.  On the treadmill my fastest 5K time is 49:19.  Why I chose 45 minutes is beyond me but the challenge has been set and I accept. If I can continue to lose weight and continue to work out, I am confident that I can reach that goal.  &lt;/p&gt;

It makes sense. Sure it isn’t easy but it’s worth it. I’m worth it. Starting today, I’ll be following Cooler Plan #3 of the Eat-Clean Diet by Tosca Reno.  This plan is set for someone who is new to eating clean and wants to see what it is like.  It’s more lenient than the other plans in the book.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;During this week, I will:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Eat 6 small meals a day&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Eat a combination of lean protein &amp; complex carbs with each meal&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Eat sufficient healthy fats every day&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Drink 2 to 3 litters of water a day&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Depend on fruits &amp; veggies for fiber, vitamins, nutrients &amp; enzymes.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Adhere to proper portion sizes.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;I will be avoiding:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;All over-processed foods particularly white flour &amp; sugar&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Chemically charged foods&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Foods containing preservatives&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Artificial sugars&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Saturated &amp; trans fats&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Sugar loaded beverages including sodas &amp; juices&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Limit alcohol intake&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;All calorie dense foods containing little or no nutritional value&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;I convinced my mom to attempt this meal plan for 1 week &amp; we went to the grocery store. For it all, we spent $140 for the whole week which in my opinion isn’t bad. That’s 6 small meals x 7 days for 2 people so it averages out to $1.66 per meal/$10 a day.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Some of the food won’t be bought every week (i.e. pasta, nut butter, agave nectar) so I’m anticipating it to be cheaper next time.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I am doing this to get an introduction to eating clean and also because I am hoping it will help me reach my goal of a 100 pound loss by my birthday which is in the first week of June.  I’ll still be tracking my food in the WW app.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I am now 3.7 pounds from reaching a triple digit loss.  Holy crap!  My 33rd birthday is in less than 3 weeks &amp;amp; I would really like to be in 100 pound loss club so while today I am taking it easy fitness wise, I am back at it tomorrow by restarting the Boot Camp Challenge at a higher intensity/using heavier weights and back to the gym for incline treadmill workouts.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p class="separator"&gt;I used up all of my Weekly Points which it was mostly due to my out of control eating on Monday.   I did use some yesterday but I feel that it was within reason.   I reached my goal of 40 Activity Points for the week as well.  Putting aside Monday&amp;#8217;s hiccup, it was a great week.  My goal for this week is to earn 40 AP&amp;#8217;s, drink at least 100oz of water daily &amp;amp; make better food choices meaning less processed foods.  &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p class="separator"&gt;Now on to Bay to Breakers&amp;#8230; &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p class="separator"&gt;When I committed to do this race back in October, I was thinking &amp;#8220;what the funk did you sign up for?&amp;#8221; At that time I had only participated in 5K&amp;#8217;s and here I was signed up for a 12K.  I started following the half marathon training guide I found on Hal Higdon&amp;#8217;s site and was pretty consistent with it.  It kept me on a schedule and working on a walking base.  But after February&amp;#8217;s 10K, I sort of got bored with walking and switched to doing cardio DVDs.   I had set a goal of 2:15 adding extra time due to the hill that&amp;#8217;s in the middle of the course.  My time was 2:37.  I was telling someone that records weren&amp;#8217;t made but memories were made &amp;amp; &lt;a href="http://asmallloss.com/"&gt;Mary&lt;/a&gt; reminded me that we did set a record.  We both participated in our first 12K.  I have to remember to look at things in a positive way.  &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p class="separator"&gt;We walked the race and it was so much fun.  So many crazy costumes, too many naked old men and so many drunk people.  The weather in San Francisco was gorgeous.  I think I didn&amp;#8217;t hydrate enough because afterwards I felt a bit dizzy but overall it was a great day.  On to the pictures&amp;#8230;&lt;/p&gt;
